Disney Villans Do It Better

How amazing is this Maleficent poster staring Ms. Angelina Jolie? Such the perfect role! All the Disney villains had the best outfits and the best skin!  The trailer for Maleficent was just released making all scifi fanatics like me, marketing the release date. Mac Cosmetics is even getting into the action by doing an exclusive beauty line based on the movie. See... villains do it better! Do we see people wanting Snow White's make up? No!

Trailer for Maleficent, love the laugh at the ending!

I decided that Maleficent will be one of my costumes for next year's NY Comic Con! I already put some of the outfit together:

Who else is excited for Maleficent, as I am?

Saint Laurent Pre-Fall 13

I know I'm late but, how amaze did Freja Beha Erichsen look in the new pre-fall ads for Saint Laurent? It's a mix of rock n' roll, chic, and sexy tomboy all in one. Creative director Hedi Slimane kept true to the late Yves Saint Laurent famous classic tuxedo suit, shown in the pinstripe number below.

I always have been a fan of YSL before it was re-branded to Saint Laurent, he was innovative at using non-European cultural references as inspiration, and models of color during fashion shows and campaigns. I own his famous Muse bag, it holds everything and I still look chic!

Looking forward to fall, definitely doing more of a rocker chic look , lol if I don't do that already!

DBSW-Drink Beer Save Water tees

Hey guys!

I had the chance to walk The Capsule show with my job last week. The Capsule show is a fashion trade show that has directional and independent designers (my cup of tea). It is a fresh approach to the typical NYC trade show which is usually at the Piers or Javits center in NYC. The Capsule show takes place in NYC, Paris, Berlin and Las Vegas. We were scouting brands for the store, getting inspired, and listening to great music as we walked booth to booth!

What caught my eye was the Korean based unisex brand Drink Beer Save Water. Yes, that is the brand name or DBSW for short. The frat boy idea of saving water by drinking beer is absurd to the typical person but it is an freaking awesome concept the collection initially based it's designs on lol.

The design team at DWSB implement the philosophy that like booze, funny and imaginative fashion items can be used for social lubrication Hey I can dig it, the conversation will sure to be be funny! All graphic designs are interactive- you can flip pieces over, change buttons, store your belongings, wear them inside out, or even cut and sew your own combination.  A guy can wear with a relaxed dark jean, where a gal can wear it with a leather short and heels. Sometimes a lot of fashion brands take themselves way too seriously this brand doesn't.

Here are a few of my favs from the Spring 13 collection. The Fall 13 collection is sold in Atrium in NYC:

Luxe Superhero fashion

How SICK are these tees from Pierre Balmain? Pierre Balmain is the diffusion line from fashion house Balmain. There are recognizable design features of Balmain—luxe, rock 'n' roll, and understated-urbane cool. The faded graphics and boxy tee shirt body styles show a whimsical side of the Balmain brand.

These Italian imported jersey tees retail for under $200 on Shopbop & Zappos Couture! Italian imported jersey is super luxe and one of the finest jerseys in the market, I own a tee that is Italian jersey that I had for 5 years now. LOL for the rest of us, I found alternatives until there is a sample sale:
Nasty Gal $38
Thanos Shirt $24

Deck your life with art from Meegan Barnes

If it looks expensive, costs more than your rent, and challenges normal understanding, it must be art, right? Not! Upgrade your lifestyle (walls, clothing, Ipads) with stacks of gorgeous art from Meegan Barnes. The unforgettable illustrations are available at Society 6.

I met Meegan 10 years ago when I interned for her at Femme Arsenal when was the designer for the fashion brand. It was the first internship I had and I learned a lot from her and the team.  I always thought Meegan was a very talented artist that was ahead of her time. I looked up to her and still do in so many ways: her talent, confidence, and energy! She was a great mentor to me!

I am happy to see her one-of-a-kind illustrations  sold at Society 6 at amazing price points. Art prints are $40, T-Shirts  & Tote bags are $22, Iphone cases are $35, and stretched canvas is $85.

Here are a few of my favorites! One of them includes her Jack Russell terrier,
Alvin.

Marvel Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D

With reality TV shows not showing a sign of slowing down soon, it was refreshing to hear that a real COMIC book series will premiere this fall (sorry not a fan of Arrow on the CW). I'm talking about Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Marvel Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D is a spin off from the Avengers movie, I was happy to see that Agent Coulson lives as one can see from the trailer:

I am really stoked for this! I don't have to keep watching carton repeats as much anymore lol!

Be a fan of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D here. Have a great weekend folks!

The treat that charms this geeky gal's heart: Scifi Swimsuits!

The holiday's are here, I have been ordering my gingerbread latte, blast the Christmas music around the office, and going on youtube to see my favorite scenes from "A Christmas Story" lol

A coworker of mine knows I am a scifi-comic buff and she sent me the most awesome link! It is the first time in a while where I just brought something on the spot, the early Christmas gift to myself. Can't wait to well for a vacay!

Presenting the R2D2 Bathing suit from Black Milk Clothing:

R2 2.0 Swimsuit

This is so dope on so many levels, the print, the silluouette, and the price. Designer swimsuits can be so expensive but it really doesn't show off the woman behind the swimsuit.

The website also has bathing suits devoted to my scifi/comic obsession here are a few of my favorites :)

Black Milk Clothing is such a great find! I am looking forward to what they do for Spring 13! Are you guys treating yourself to an Christmas gift? Do tell!

The work is called Famous Robots by Daniel Nyari:

All my favorite robots, lol check out Bender from Futurama!
From top left across and down: T-800, Astro Boy, Vision, Bender, Brainiac, C3PO, Clank, Cyberman, Cylon,    Awesome-O, Gort, Rosie, Alpha, Voltron, EVE, Maschinenmensch, Optimus Prime, Wall-E, Wheatley, Marvin the Paranoid Android, Miles Monroe, HAL 9000, Iron Giant, Robby the Robot, Pneuman, R2D2, Sentinel, Asimo, H8,  Mega Man
The art print comes in a variety of sizes, I went with the mini size for my office wall:

The Famous Robots artwork also comes in a tote, two hoodies, and a tee.

Meow: Review of Gotham CIty Sirens Comic/DIY Catwoman Costume

Hey guys!

October is next week! We know what that means: Halloween! For a comic book/sci-fi fanatic like myself, it means countdown to NYC Comic Con. The convention is on October 11-14, 2012 at the Javits Center It is the largest event in the East Coast that caters to comic books and sci-fi.

Last year's Comic Con, I was introduced to the series called Gotham City Sirens.  The main characters are Catwoman, Poison Ivy, and Harley Quinn.

Issue #1
In the first few issues, the ladies decided to live together and join forces.  I found this to be awesome since one of my favorite episodes in Batman: The Animated Series involved Poison Ivy getting Harley away from Joker, becoming best buds, and proving the women could do a better job as villains.

Throwback from Batman The Animated Series
I don't want to give a lot away, but the series was definitely ahead of its time.  DC Comics who owns the series, should have given it another year before canceling it last year. A lot of women are into comic books and a few that I spoke to didn't know it existed till it was canceled, what a shame. Such a great read!

The Artwork by J. G. Jones is a sight to see, it would be great to get one of them framed:

The series is available at DC Comics or your local comic book shop!

This year for NYC Comic Con, I decided to dress up the two days I'm going. The first day I will be Catwoman basing it on Anne Hathaway's version:

This is a semi DIY project, I found an amazing seamstress on Etsy who is making the catsuit and belt for me. for me, bless you Julie! She sent me the materials she is using the other day:

I found the mask already!

I'll also be Catwoman for halloween lol, I am determined to do something fun this year: haunted house, pub crawl, house party, fright fest, it will be something! Gotta start brainstorming! What are your plans?
