Kos' NYFW Fall 13 Diary #1: Wildfox Couture

Finale at Wildfox Couture
NY Fashion week (NYFW) has started, the first show I had the opportunity to attend was the presentation for Wildfox Couture Fall 2013 at the coveted venue Capitale.

Below is a snap of the presentation, I will get to that in few:

The Wildfox Couture brand has been getting a lot of buzz the past few years with thier celebrity following and boho designs. Most recently, Beyonce wore their eye-wear brand Wildfox Sun. She wore the eyeglasses in the famous picture that was on her tumblr page last week in the height of the lip synching controversy. She also wore Wildfox in music videos, and at the coachella music festival.

The Fall 13 presentation was from 8pm-11pm, I was wondering why the event was so long.. But when I got there with my friend Candy, I realized the first part was a reception with drinks plus the ultimate comfort food of gourmet fries and grilled cheese! I'm a sucker for grilled cheese!  The DJ was amazing putting on the 80's hits along with sounds from Foster The People, which inspired a few attendee's to dance. The scene was mixed: bloggers, publicist, editors, and celebrities like Vanessa Hudgens and Ashelee Simpson all coming together to see the beloved Wildfox Couture put on one of the best presentations I've seen in a very long time.

Second half of the event was in the main room at Capitale:
The models actually entered from the balcony dancing to Frank Sinatra wearing sequin maxi skirts, short bob cuts, feather bowas incorporating Wildfox's signature designs and breezy t shirt body styles.

The skeleton sequin sweatshirt is a must have, one of the huge trends for fall 13 is "The Sweatshirt" it is great to see a t shirt brand like Wildfox make it their own by incorporating their signature skeleton design that has been seen on dresses and t shirts in the past.
Loved the Great Gatsby hint in the design below, it's just enough :)
I have a feeling that I will be I am having dreams about the the sequin maxi skirt! Anyone that knows me know I love maxi skirts! They're my staple!
At the end of the night each guest got an amazing gift bag full of goodies, thank you Wildfox:
Canvas bag by Wildfox Couture, Tigi haircare, Wildfox Sun lookbook, Lip gloss by Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics, Custom deck of card by Wildfox Couture.

What a great way to start NYFW! Stoaked about Duckie Brown tomorrow!

I don't think you're ready for this jelly

If you are living under a rock the past few hours or not seeing the intagrams, facebook posts, or  tweets you couldn't help but know that Beyonce (majority of the vote) rocked the Superbowl halftime show! Beyonce's outfit was designed by NYC fashion designer Rubin Singer. The designer created a black leather bodysuit with a cropped motorcycle jacket and mini wrap skirt (both of which she ripped off within minutes, natch). Underneath was an intricate lace skirt.

I thought it was cool for the designer to share sketches of his design process:

For my foreign readers I've included the performance:

What did you guys think of the outfit and Bey's performance?

The Valentine's Day gift for the little girl in your life: KaeKae Kouture

Hello everyone!

February is upon us and the Valentine's day promotions are in full swing.  I remember as a kid when Valentine's Day rolled around I would start thinking about what to give away at school, wearing red/pink, and all the candy my mom and aunts will be giving me :)  As an aunt of a 2 year old girl I started to think about what to get her: Paper Valentine, she'll rip up for sure lol, a toy.. she has a ton. Then the perfect gift came to mind: KaeKae Kouture hair clips.

KaeKae Kouture was developed by Krystal Cruz, I actually went to high school with Krystal (can't believe 10+ years ago we old! lol). When she started to do postings on her online boutique a few months ago I immediately thought about how cute to see a children's collection that was an affordable price. The collection consists of hair clips as I highlighted, wall decor, gift sets, and burb cloths. I had a chance to ask Krystal about the story behind the brand:

Krysal Cruz: As a person who loves fashion..I've always like the exclusive. I've always sewn and crocheted and designed things off the top of my head. So when I became a mommy to a girl, I poured all of that into my little princess (who now loves fashion too). I've made her so many unique things and when people seen us out, they would stop me and ask where did I get that? I always say the same thing: "I made it." So KaeKae Kouture is an online boutique for parents out there who love their little one to stand out at an affordable price! Plus I love giving back. And not only do I want the Moms to love KaeKae Kouture, I want the little divas to love it as well, when they receive their free hair clip, etc.

Kosi: How did you come up with the name?

Krystal: My daughter inspired me so I named it after her nickname and I changed the C to a K in Kouture just for a unique look.  I chose a butterfly in the logo because since Kae was born I've watch her transition as a beautiful butterfly does.

Kosi: What advice would you give to mother's starting their own business?

Krystal:Keep around things and people that inspire you. Do your homework and the possibilities are endless!!!

Well said!

Krystal developed a Valentine's day collection that consists of hair clips. And the best thing about the new hair accessories is that they're not strictly for Valentine's Day; they can be worn any day of the year!

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year....

It's that time of the year again, the time where emails are bombarded with evites and subject lines reading "Fall 13 & RSVP" start coming up in my personal email box, it's New York Fashion Week (NYFW) for short!

Above are a few of the evites I got so far, I am excited about Charlotte Ronson and Duckie Brown which the first menswear show I am going to.

Since I have busy workload at my full time job I am pacing myself this year, there are so many shows to go to and little time but grateful to be going to a few shows. This year, I decided to pack a survival kit consisting of:

  1. New Camera my friend Alaina recommended the Panasonic Lumix ZS19.
  2. A pair of Yosi Samra ballerina flats rolled in my bag-I plan to wear my heels but going to different locations within 2 hours.. break out the flats!
  3. My Ipad-easier to jot things down in between shows.
  4. Nars Orgasm color Lip Gloss.
  5. Vitamin C-let's not forget it's winter here in NYC and everyone including myself has been under the weather.
Can't wait to share my experience again all of you, have a great week!

Pow Wow

Leather Jacket Muubaa, Dress: Motel Alexa Maxi Dress

Photography by Kareem Montes
This Pow dress from the brand Motel has been something I've been dreaming of for the longest time. The comic book vibe plus my leather jacket staple are the perfect combo I must say! There are a lot of comic book related dresses in the market and some of them can look to gaudy or they are not work appropriate. The "Pow" applique is just enough to please any female comic book lover! What fun!

Out on the Weekend

After a very busy work week (sales meeting one day at 7:30am and a Fall 13 photoshoot for the new brand launch at 8:30am the next).  I was very happy for the weekend to come!

Here is the new project I am working on at work, it's a new brand we are going to launch in the next week or so:

My friend Valerie invited me to the premiere of the movie "Wait In Room 219" a project which she as assistant director of. It was great to see her and catch up, congrats Val!

I had a slight wardrobe malfunction before attending the premiere the dress I was going to wear I realized needs to be fitted, in a panic I checked my closet and found a lifesaver!

Me and Val-Dress: ALC, Shoes Rag & Bone
Aiesha came with me, she looked amaze! She is wearing a vintage rabbit fur coat from ETSY, Qi Asymmetric Dress, Aerosoles heels.

Friday night, I attended the Knicks game with Rachel here is us after the game posing with Tyson Chandler. I felt like a little kid looking around the garden, buying a souvenir lol.

Some of the decor at Madison Square Garden
Before the game started

The Knicks lost but it was great being at the garden, hanging with Rachel and talking to other fans. I will be going to another game very soon!

Sunday, I am doing some work (always like this for the month of January). Was supposed to shoot today but have to play catch up, outfit post will be definitely this week. First two weeks of 2013 were memorable.

How is the weekend going for everyone so far?

On The Ball: Sporty Dressing

In the fashion world, the word "sporty" doesn't necessarily have the most stylish connotation usually.  Visions of baggy athletic shorts, shelf-bra tanks, and sweatproof sunblock invaded my mind years ago. It is great to see designers
embrace the word "sporty".

In NYC 2013, the word "sporty" was also given a new definition due to NYC basketball, it is very exciting to watch! I never seen so many female fans interested in basketball! Weather you are a NY Knicks fan or Brooklyn Nets fan, I think we can all agree being "sporty" is playing in a whole new court.

I am very excited to be going to my first Knicks game this Friday at Madison Square Garden (yep I'm a Knicks fan, I thank my brother Nei for that). I always liked basketball even wore a few jersey's in junior high school and played a few weeks in my junior high school's female basketball team.

I had to figure out what to wear for Friday's game, it's major on so many levels: 1st game, and the Knicks are playing the Chicago Bulls. The last game was intense (google it people). I was happy to see other brands/websites embrace the sporty revolution in fashion.   Sporty no longer referrs to the Jane-Fonda-legwarmers of years past. Thanks to subtle infusions of color and surprising pairing of unlikely materials like leather and suede, the results are a ramped-up, stylish look. My style is eclectic but chic, mixing a leather hat with an oversize orange tank, grey sweats, and pumps? Looks divine, I must say!

The board represents my interpretation of sporty, I tend to focus more on color than the actual silhouette adding accents such as a leather cap for me is a must to keep it fresh and modern!

Have you guys embrace the sporty revolution, how do you make it your own?
