Androgyny at Its Finest

Do you really need another T-shirt? Of course not. Still, options never hurt.

My friend Stef recently introduced me to EACH x OTHER, a Parisian unisex fashion brand that is part androgynous, part rock n roll with a sophisticated finish.  She had the opportunity to assist styling their Fall 2012 shoot (proud of you girl).

The tees have a relaxed boyfriend fit that I have been craving lately, a lot nowadays are either too fitted or too loose.  Tees from the collection are done by hand such as stone, deep-dye, and burn-out. I would live in each of these tees:

The design aesthetic for the collection is far different of what we see in the US where everything is so trend driven and commercial. It's very refreshing to see clothes with a real edge and wearability. Also they are just plain sexy!

In addition to their luxury tees, EACH x OTHER will also launch a limited edition series of artworks printed on silk scarfs, trench coats, denim and leather.

New collection favorite, I can't wait to see it in stores!

Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes: Anti-resolutions

Happy New Year!

It's 2012 everyone! Hope you all had an amazing holiday! I did, I am so grateful for the family and friend's in my life, I love them all!

Here is me playing with my Christmas/Kwanzaa gift my parents got me, the Iphone 4s baby!

I have been seeing a lot of new year's resolutions on facebook and twitter.  I have been anti-New Year's resolution.  They are broken so quickly and consistently that we make them without any expectation whatsoever that we’ll still be doing them come February.  I overheard a conversation on the bus a few days ago where a man basically told his friend his New Year’s Resolution was to exercise more, but he probably wouldn’t because “you know how New Year’s Resolutions are.”  So he literally told his resolution and that he also wouldn’t keep it in once sentence! Ha ha!  The mindset with which people approach their New Year’s Resolutions is all wrong.

I offer you all an alternative: Anti-resolutions: add something to your life.

Here are a few of mine:

  • Sleep more
  • Smile when I wake up
  • Get a mani/pedi once a week
  • Get a massage once a month
  • Wear more color (I tend to wear more grays and blues)
  • Get to work on time
  • Plan afterwork Martini Monday's and Karaoke Wednesdays
  • Attend more kick ass houseparties with my awesome friend's
  • More random Thursday & Friday night's
  • Commit random, spontaneous acts of kindness.
  • Make more vision/inspiration boards for my goals and personal style as shown below
  • Go to  regional comic cons! Ha!
    • Be thankful for what is
What are your anti-resolutions? Please share!

Knee Deep Vintage at Loveday 31

    Hey guys!

Holiday season has begun! My Thanksgiving weekend was a blast! I paid a visit with my friend Aiesha to Loveday31 Vintage Boutique in Astoria, Queens.

Once stepping into Loveday31, it feels as if your transported back in the 70's due to Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones, David Bowie and Led Zeppelin, playing in the background. This boutique is a true gem in NYC!

Pictured above is Ivona, the owner of Loveday31 and a dear friend of the family! I had the chance to ask her a few questions before the afternoon rush came in:

How did you get started in the vintage business?
I was the buyer for Screaming Mimi's NYC for many years.

What made you want to start your own vintage boutique?
My hood was lacking alternative shopping. There was a void to be filled and I wanted to fill it.

How do you buy for your store? Do you attend shows like the Rosebowl?
What do you look for when purchasing vintage?
I usually travel out of tri-state area. Texas is one of my favorite places for vintage. When shopping I look for an item to be  in perfect condition and to make sense with current trends. Don't get me wrong, even a seasoned buyer will occasionally make a mistake...hence the sale rack outside.

What makes Loveday31 different from the consignment shops
    that claim they have vintage?
All pieced at Loveday are carefully selected and curated. 99% of our merchandise is at least from early 90s late 80s and prior decades. A few new items find their way to our racks but that's because I like them.

Define what is vintage to you?
Vintage, by my standards is at least 10-15 years old.

What advice would you give anyone looking to open a boutique?
    Whether it's vintage or regular?
Do your homework and be prepared to work your ass off. All the success and all the mistakes are your own.

Do you find that people are buying more vintage due to the economy?
People buy vintage because current fashion is inspired by vintage. They love it because it's unique,  one of a kind, made well and won't fall apart in your next wash. And you don't have to worry that the girl at the party next to you will be wearing the same thing.

Aiesha was debating between the knit dress she is wearing or the green bag.. she went with the green suede lol green is her favorite color!

I went with a fur vest, below is a picture of me wearing it the next day:

Rebel Chic earrings, check out their holiday trunk show on December 10th, at Loveday 31!
Follow Loveday31 on facebook here. I will be covering the Rebel Chic trunk show next week!

    Autumn in the Air

    Hello everyone!

Hope you all had an awesome Thanksgiving! I went to Staten Island where my sister and brother-in-law hosted one of the best Thanksgiving holiday celebrations I have experienced in a long time.  The weather in NYC is mild, especially for this time of year, not complaining about that!

My Thanksgiving outfit was dressy, casual, and chic and I got to kiss a frog. Unfortunately he didn't turn into a prince lol but I am thankful for the amazing day with my family.

    To breakdown my outfit:

    Sweater: Qi
    Leggings: Uniqlo

Special thanks to my guest photographer, Ptah Hotep of Tehuti Images who portrait and fine out photographer.

How was everyone's Thanksgiving? I am thankful to all of you as always!

    NY Comic Con 2011

    Hey guys!

I went to NYC Comic Con Saturday 10/15, it was my first time going and it was AMAZING. I am definitely going all four days next year, there is so much to cover. I purchased a few T-Shirts, Comic Books, and Jewelry from Her Universe a new Star Wars women's apparel/accessories line.

A women's collection dedicated to Star Wars and Sci-fi! I found my new Go-To for Tees! I got a few pieces of their jewelry that I will feature in an upcoming post.

The energy at the Javits Center was refreshing, I usually go to the Javits Center for fashion trade shows, etc. It was nice going for something more lighthearted.

He was playing Yoda's theme from the Empire Strikes Back

    Me getting my cowboy on

I brought the She Hulk dress lol wearing it to work on Halloween

    Something for the guys lol

I need to brainstorm my outfits for next year, I highlighted the best of the best:

    The Best Action Figures

The are three of my all time favorite female comic characters: Catwoman, Jean Grey, and Dark Phoenix

    Can't wait for next year!
